My first idea is kind of hard for me to explain but basically it’s just hands. Old hands, baby hands, people holding things that are important to them, hands working. Stuff like that.
My second idea would be taking photos of people in their environment. For example, my sister is in a play and I could go backstage and get all of the actors running around practicing and doing their costume changes.
My third idea is portraits. I’ve never been very good at taking pictures of people in a structured environment where I would have to set up lights and direct them on what to do so that could help me get past that fear not knowing what to do.
Hi Danielle,
Thanks for sharing your ideas! I think you could do a combination of your second and third ideas. If you remember in ART143 we did a environmental portrait which incorporated a person with items around them that helped tell a story about them. So you could incorporate the portrait aspect you are interested in as well the environment. I think it could develop into an interesting series! Thanks Danielle!

I love the idea of photographing hands, it is something I have always wanted to do, however I think that photographing people in their environment would be a lot more interesting and it would go well with your third idea. I think that would be a great choice to do your series on and if you already have a group of people to photograph half of your work is done!! Good luck
I like your first idea. It sounds like a lot of work but I think it has the potential to express a lot of feeling. If you are able to get a wide variety of hands, doing tasks or as you mentioned, holding items that have some meaning to the holder, it might tell a real story.
Danielle,
I believe your hand topic would be interesting. There are so many expressions you could show but at the same time be stretched to convey a message. Lighting could definitely play with the mood of what each picture was trying to say. Great idea!!
It seems like everyone is doing portraits! I think it is great. I agree that people would be most interesting. I like putting a twist of having them in their own environment.
I like your second idea best. I think that capturing people in the excitement of the moment, such as hustling around to be ready for the opening of a play, would be something especially interesting and unique. You could have a lot of fun doing this. Your other ideas are also good.
I really like the idea of the hands, there was a photo I saw in high school that was done at an autoshop and the lady did a “day in the life” one of the shots was this guy at a tire mounting machine with some of the dirtiest hands I’ve seen, I really loved the image. You can tell a whole story just by hands
