My first choice is to do a series on collages. I really enjoyed the assignment last semester and I feel that I could expand upon the idea more. I do think that I should maybe narrow it down a little bit more and find a topic that I would create these collages for so that they would fit better into a series…
My second choice is to do a series on trees, I have always been interested in trees but have never really tried to photograph them, let alone make a series out of them. I do think that this idea could tap into my fine art side a little bit more which is something that I would like to do…
My third choice is to do a series on portraiture, I think that this would be a good idea for me so that I could get some feed back on my portraits and find ways to improve them, however I do feel like portraiture could be a very wide range and I’m not so sure I want a wide range for a series.
Sarah, I really like the second choice of photographing trees. I too have an affinity for them Since it is something you haven’t tried before it would be a great way to experiment with new subject matter. There are so many beautiful trees to choose from– native trees to ones that have been brought here to make Phoenix look more “tropical”. So many interesting directions you could take on this idea…
If you decide to go this way I would recommend a visit to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum too 🙂

Hi Sarah,
I feel like your first idea of the collages or the second idea of trees would be most interesting. I am not against the portraiture idea but we will be doing a portrait assignment here shortly so that might satisfy your desire to work in that area. I am thrilled that you enjoyed the collage assignment so much and would love to see you move forward with this idea! Of course it is up to you. Looking forward to seeing which direction you take!

I am actually thinking of combining one and two. I think that the collage idea is still pretty broad and if I took pictures of trees and then turned them into collages I might a series that works better… However I’m still considering other options
I was going to say that it would be interesting if you combined your first and second ideas. I really liked the collage that you did last semester and I love trees. I think you would be able to pull that off really well.
Now I am curious to see your collage from last semester. If you do trees, you can get a cultural pass to go to the Botanical Gardens (near the Phoenix Zoo) at the Mesa Library. Of course, you need a library card. Gilbert and Chandler libraries may also have cultural passes. (Botanical Gardens also has a butterfly exhibit going on for the next couple of months.) I love Botanical Gardens, and I think you could get fantastic pictures there.
